GO BOLD

Spring / Summer 2008 is a kaleidoscope of color, sparkle, and shine.

Brights

Certainly, colorful palettes tend to go hand and hand with warmer seasons. However, for Spring / Summer 2008, colors are especially energized and vibrant. The season is bursting with canary yellows, saturated pinks, electric blues, tart oranges, and bottomless aquas. Neutrals start to take a back seat. The motto this season - brighter is better.

Color Blocking

Strong color blocking is a huge trend this season. Bold colors in similar tones are combined to create a striking effect. In footwear, this is especially prevalent in the season’s architectural silhouettes. The result is a graphic, modern look. In apparel, color blocking is achieved by combining monochromatic pieces. By fall, look for outfit combinations where each element – dress, shoes, accessories, tights (especially the tights!) – is in its’ own vivid hue.

Metallics

Yes, metallics are still on trend. However, they are becoming more subtle – less bling, more shimmer – and more decorative. Metallics have or create texture now. Look for embossed patterns such as snake skin, organic prints, and romantic motifs. Take note of metallic embellishments like feathers, lace detailing, and brocades.

Art as Fashion

Large scale, modern art is showing up on garments for Spring / Summer 2008. Interpretations range from dizzying geometrics to abstract washes of color. This parallels the trend of corporations partnering with artists (whether emerging or well-known) to design unique, limited-time collections.
